Texas Tech held a blood drive last week, allowing students and faculty to donate while on campus. Donors are encouraged to keep hydrated and eat a good meal before donating. Those who donate will be given a free T-shirt and food after their donation. Locations and times will vary:

  • Monday, April 13, 2015 — 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom
  • Tuesday, April 14, 2015 — 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom
  • Wednesday, April 15, 2015 — 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom
  • Thursday, April 16, 2015 — 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. in the Red Raider Lounge at the Student Union Building
  • Friday, April 17, 2015 — 11:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. in the Bloodmobile in front of the Student Union Building

Jon Mayers, a sophomore Management Informations Systems major, from Tyler, Texas, said he came out to the event to save a life and for some free food.

“Well I was walking by and saw they had it so, I wanted to help someone out someday and get some pizza and the shirt is nice,” Mayers said.

The event is part of the Battle of the Residence Halls Blood Drive.

Lauren Taylor, a freshman education major, from Abilene, said she was not sure about donating blood but, seeing her friends do it made her want to do it, too.

“I am not comfortable with blood or with any of those things,” Taylor said, “my friends are the ones who wanted to do it. I saw them and I was like sure why not? If I can help someone out that’s great. The food and stuff are good too.”
